Originally from the East Coast, I was born Noelle Butkus, and grew up on golden oldies, new wave, ska, and British punk music. (Yes, I had a Lambretta and a chelsea!)
I’m a bass player, songwriter, and co-founder of (& bassist in) L.A.–based Brit-pop/shoegaze band The Chantepleures.
I’m inspired by artists like The Cranberries, Geneva, Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran, Blondie, and Sinéad O’Connor, and I love to listen to post-punk, shoegaze, & Brit-pop tunes.
In May 2023, I released my debut single, “Be With You,” – kind of a nod to the disco records my sister and I used to play on repeat as kids. (Did you dance endlessly to ABBA in your bedroom, too?)
Earlier in my career, I worked with a London-based company (Now Play It) and collaborated with artists including Marky Ramone, Sham 69, The English Beat, Au Revoir Simone, Sean Lennon, Pixies, Yellowcard, Blondie, and The Autumns – which was a pretty kick-ass job to be honest.
Outside of music, my interests wander a bit... I’ve traveled to (& lived in) Japan to study self-defense, I collect vintage bathing suits, and I spend a lot of time writing and recording with Brent, in the peaceful mountains of Southern California.
I’ve also appeared as an extra in Parks & Recreation, Chuck, Bones, and The Amazing Spider-Man, and once flew backwards as a fairy in Pixies’ “Silver” video. (We did this vid for their 20th Anniversary Doolittle Tour. You can find that video on YouTube!)
My great uncle, Frank D’Annolfo, played trombone with Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, my cousin Aaron Butkus fronts the hardcore band Death Threat, and yes—football legend Dick Butkus was my third cousin...
Right now, we’re deep in rehearsing for upcoming shows & finishing up the full-length debut album - I AM… Gigi Phenix set for release in late 2026.
